Uttlesford Primary Schools come out tops at the Essex schools X country.

Uttlesford Primary Schools come out tops at the Essex schools X country.

The results for the X country for the Essex games showed great improvement on last year’s results. The X country which was to be held at Danbury Park was cancelled in early March due to the snow. The event was changed to the challenging mountain bike course at Hadleigh Farm in Southend. Uttlesford took over 60 children to the event. The competition had over 150 children running in every race. There were years 3, 4 5 and 6 children competing.

There were some fantastic individual results –

In year 4 Talia Kimber from R A Butler finished second and Lily Godfrey from Friends came third.

In year 5  Barnaby knight came second and James Fraser finished third.

In year 6 Helena Dyce from Clavering School came first and Indigo Collecott from Friends school came second.

The overall results by all the different partnerships showed great improvements as Uttlesford schools won three team competitions.

In the year 3 competition the boys from R A Butler finished 10th. The girls from Great Chesterford performed brilliantly by winning the event.

In the year 4 competition the boys from R A Butler finished second.  The girls from Henham and Ugley Primary school also raced extremely well to win the event.

In the year 5 competition R A Butler school finished fourth and the girls from R A Butler came fifth.

In the year 6 competition RA Butler boys finished seventh and the girls from Friends primary school won the event.

The results overall showed that Uttlesford sports partnership had more school team wins than any of the other 12 partnership in Essex.  One of the contributing factors has been the open X Country races that took place at Friends school where children from years 3. 4 , 5 and 6 were invited to come along and practice the X country. This initiative is to continue next year and will hopefully be extended into Stansted and Dunmow schools.
